Split a PDF into smaller, focused documents

Splitting a PDF is the first step whenever a single file holds more than one thing. A 200-page annual report might contain a dozen chapters that individual stakeholders want separately. A scanned archive might bundle unrelated invoices into one long document. A textbook might need to be broken into per-chapter study files. The OkFarsi Split PDF tool gives you three ways to slice a PDF cleanly: by specific page range, by every single page, or into fixed-size chunks.

The range mode is the most precise option. You type a comma-separated list like “1-5, 9, 12-20” and the tool extracts exactly those pages into a new PDF while leaving the source untouched. The every-page mode produces one PDF per source page, which is ideal for archiving scanned forms where each page is a distinct record. The chunk mode splits the document into equal N-page groups, useful for splitting a long report into downloadable sections for email or a content management system.

Because the tool operates at the page-object level, the output PDFs preserve everything the source contained: selectable text, embedded fonts, hyperlinks, form fields, and image quality. You can split a 500-page report in seconds without re-rendering anything. The output filenames follow a predictable pattern (for example, “report-pages-1-5.pdf”, “report-pages-6-10.pdf”), which makes bulk downloads easy to sort on your file system.

Split PDF is a natural counterpart to Merge PDF and Extract Pages. If you only need a handful of specific pages and plan to discard the rest, Extract Pages is faster. If you want to keep the original whole file but also have smaller slices to share, Split is the right tool. And because everything runs online, you can do this from any device — a phone, a work laptop, or a kiosk — without installing anything.

How to split a PDF in 4 steps

  1. Upload the source PDF

Drag your PDF onto the upload area or click to browse. The tool reads the page count locally so you can see how many pages you’re working with before choosing a split mode.

  2. Pick a split mode

Choose between range, every page, or fixed chunks. The UI shows an inline preview of how many output files each mode will produce based on your source length.

  3. Enter your page ranges (range mode)

If you picked range mode, type your ranges as a comma-separated list — for example “1-3, 7, 10-15”. The tool validates the ranges in real time and warns if any page numbers fall outside the document.

  4. Download the split files

Click Split, wait for the job to finish, and download the results either as individual PDFs or as a single ZIP. All files are removed from the server shortly after the download completes.

Common use cases

  • Chapter-by-chapter study files

Turn a 400-page textbook PDF into one file per chapter so each one loads instantly on a phone or e-reader.

  • Archiving scanned records

Split a multi-page scan of forms, receipts, or letters so each record becomes its own file, ready for document management systems.

  • Email-friendly slices

Break an oversized report into smaller chunks that fit under email attachment size limits without needing external sharing services.

  • Isolating a single signed page

Pull out just the signed signature page of a contract to send as evidence, keeping the rest of the document private.

Privacy & security

Your PDF is uploaded over HTTPS and processed in an isolated job workspace. The source file and all split outputs are removed from the server automatically a short time after your download. We do not read, index, or retain your document contents. Because splitting is a local structural operation on the PDF — no third-party cloud services touch your file — there is no external data sharing involved. For highly sensitive documents, consider compressing the outputs into an encrypted ZIP locally after downloading, especially before sending through open channels like email.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a page limit for the source PDF?

There is a soft file-size limit enforced per tool to keep processing fast for everyone, but the per-page limit is generous — most documents under a few hundred megabytes split without any issue.

Do split PDFs keep the same quality as the original?

Yes. The tool copies page objects directly from the source PDF rather than re-rendering them, so text remains selectable, fonts stay embedded, and image resolution is untouched.

Can I use complex page ranges like “1-3, 7, 10-15”?

Yes. The range parser accepts any combination of single pages and hyphenated ranges separated by commas. Overlapping or out-of-bounds ranges are flagged before the job runs.

What format are the split files delivered in?

You receive standard PDF files named after their page ranges. If the split produces many files, they are bundled into a ZIP archive for a single convenient download.

Can I split a scanned PDF?

Yes. Splitting works the same way on scanned PDFs as it does on born-digital PDFs, because the operation is purely structural. If you also want the resulting files to be searchable, run them through the OCR PDF tool afterward.

Is my file deleted after the split finishes?

Yes. Both the original upload and all generated output files are removed from the server shortly after your download. We keep only an anonymous job identifier for delivering the download link.
